Aston Martin Valkyrie Tested by Max Verstappen and Alex Albon at Silverstone
On Tuesday 18 February 2020 Aston Martin conducted a significant phase of its Valkyrie hypercar development program at Silverstone Circuit. Three verification prototypes (VP1, VP2, and VP3) were tested as part of the car’s ongoing validation process. This session marked the first time Formula One drivers Max Verstappen and Alex Albon had the opportunity to drive the vehicle.
Verstappen and Albon piloted VP1, the prototype previously seen at the 2019 British Grand Prix. The other two cars were driven by Aston Martin High-Performance Test Driver Chris Goodwin, along with Aston Martin Racing drivers Darren Turner and Alex Lynn.
The goal of the session was to collect feedback from elite drivers and further refine the car’s dynamic characteristics. The verification prototypes are part of a broader development strategy, with a total of eight planned prototypes. These cars are being used to evaluate key systems, including aerodynamics, powertrain integration, and vehicle dynamics, ahead of customer deliveries starting in the second half of 2020.
Chris Goodwin commented that the feedback from Verstappen and Albon was positive and aligned with the development team's direction. Both drivers noted the Valkyrie’s high downforce and performance capabilities, even in its pre-production state.
