Disassembling an F1 Engine (Crankshaft) | Ayrton Senna’s V10 McLaren Honda MP45B RA100E - Part 4

In Part 4, the final chapter of this series, Honda Racing technicians disassemble the crankshaft of the Honda RA100E V10 Formula 1 engine. This engine, unit V805, holds a special place in motorsport history. It was the last Honda V10 engine raced by Ayrton Senna in the 1990 Formula 1 season with the McLaren Honda MP4/5B. Senna used this unit during the warm-up at the Japanese Grand Prix and in the Australian Grand Prix, where he secured his second Drivers’ Championship and contributed to McLaren Honda’s third consecutive Constructors’ title. While most Honda F1 engines of the era were returned to Japan, disassembled, and eventually discarded, this particular engine was preserved intact since the V10 program ended in 1990 and Honda had already begun development of the V12. That makes it one of the few surviving examples of a Honda Formula 1 V10 engine, directly connected to Senna’s career.
