Upcoming 2026 Volvo XC70 - Full Tech Specs and Performance

Introducing the new Volvo XC70, a mid-size SUV and the company’s first extended-range plug-in hybrid.

With a pure electric range of up to 200 kilometers, it offers the longest EV-only range in Volvo’s plug-in hybrid lineup to date.

Built on the SMA platform, a modular architecture designed for extended-range hybrids, the XC70 combines electric driving for daily use with a combustion engine for long-distance flexibility. Fast charging is supported, reducing downtime during trips.

The XC70 will launch first in China later this year, with Volvo evaluating additional markets based on local demand and infrastructure.

Its design features a closed front grille with an active shutter system to improve aerodynamics and efficiency. The lighting system includes Matrix LED headlights and an updated version of Volvo’s Thor’s Hammer daytime running lights. At the rear, C-shaped LED taillights are seamlessly integrated into the glass, enhancing airflow and visual continuity.

Slightly larger than the XC60, the XC70 offers more interior space while maintaining a mid-size SUV footprint. The cabin includes Volvo’s latest infotainment platform and driver-focused controls, though full specifications are yet to be released.

This model also revives the XC70 name, originally associated with a rugged wagon based on the V70. The first XC70 was known for versatility and practicality—traits carried over into this modern SUV form, now paired with an electrified powertrain.

With its extended range, hybrid flexibility, and efficient design, the XC70 serves as a strategic bridge toward full electrification within Volvo’s product lineup.

More technical details and pricing will be revealed closer to launch.
